With a goal of helping promote Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and the importance of colonoscopies for saving lives, the Center for Colon & Rectal Surgery was front and center at Track Shack’s Zimmerman Kiser Sutcliffe Winter Park Road Race presented by Florida Hospital on March 15.

Proving that some medical providers really do follow their own advice about exercise, our very own Dr. Sam Atallah joined with more than 4,000 fellow Central Floridians to run the charitable 10K event, which helped raise money for a local college scholarship fund and contributions of non-perishable goods to the Second Harvest Food Bank.

The doctor’s next job was to meet and greet members of the crowd and answer their questions about colon health as we handed out promotional water bottles from our practice’s special booth. In all, about 250 runners and their supporters stopped by to meet Dr. Atallah and learn about the best ways to avoid, screen for, and treat diseases of the colon. After asking questions about various symptoms or concerns, a few folks even resolved to call and make an appointment with us.  As Dr. Atallah reminded the crowd, “Colonoscopies save lives!”

Needless to say, we were very excited to be a part of this important community event, and we thank everyone who stopped by our booth that day. We look forward to continuing our educational outreach and furthering the fight against colon cancer at every opportunity.
